Most romantic disney date ever?
I know people are partial to the spaghetti- Bella Notte scene from Lady and the Tramp, but I remember that after watching The Rescuers Down Under, and particularly this part, I has some of my first romantic fantasies ever!
At probably age 6 I dreamed of someday having such a romantic date in an elegant and dashing restaurant, with a beautiful scenery like the Manhattan skyline and a guy deeply in love with me. I don’t even mind the place is infested with mice and roaches, although I should.

“I consider this film an epic, action, adventure film. It’s gonna have EPIC SHOTS like you’ve never seen before. Scope-sized scale. Just gigantic vistas and beautiful multilevel effects, like Bambi had at the opening shot. That’s gonna be like a throwaway shot for us, we are gonna have so much dimension to our world in the Outback. No matter what we are doing, we are APPROACHING THIS ONE VISUALLY, we are trying to make every shot something you are gonna look at and just hits you over the head with “Wow, that’s an impressive shot, that’s an incredible visual” “
- Mike Gabriel (director)

Frank Thomas was known for being one of the most gifted animators when it came to bringing an animal to life via animation. Frank animated a few beautiful scenes during the Rescue Aid Society meeting at the beginning of The Rescuers.
The sketches above are staging ideas for the moment when the two leading mice, Bernard and Bianca, meet for the first time.

MAD MEDUSA
Andreas Deja wrote an article for Sketches Magazine in 2004. Walt Disney Classics Collection was about to release a Medusa & Penny sculpture, and he was asked to write a little piece about the character and her animator Milt Kahl, who we all know he admired deeply.
