FUN FACT -BEDKNOBS AND BROOMSTICKS

King Leonidas or King Lion? In the parks and merchandise this lovely character animated by Milt Kahl goes by King Leonidas, but actually in the film, it is called simply King Lion.

ANIMATION IN BEDKNOBS AND BROOMSTICKS
In this 1971 film, the animation was directed by the great Ward Kimball while Milt Kahl created the whole cast of animals.
I feel this movie never gets much attention. I just wanted to emphasize some things that stood out to me from this movie, like the soccer game. It is filled with Disney quality, because of all the different animals, and how they use their physical attributes to play the game that are particular of their own species, such as  the gorilla hanging from the goal’s frame, the elephant shooting the ball using his trunk or the fact that the cheetah runs that fast that her feet catch fire.
The personalities of characters such as King Leonidas are very strong and distinct, which are, I think, the essence of this featured film.
I recently watched it again not a long time ago, and realized that the lead character, Miss Eglantince Price, the apprentice witch, looked AND sounded very familiar. I had already noticed David Tomlinson (the dad from Mary Poppins), but then it hit me, it was Angela Lansbury (who voices Mrs. Potts from Disney’s Beauty and the Beast). I love to see familiar Disney faces and discover things like that after a while.
