HAPPY 30th ANNIVERSARY, NEW FANTASYLAND

On May 25, 1983, a new Fantasyland was revealed at Disneyland park, 30 years ago (the1955 one got a makeover). Since then, this fairytale village style fantasyland has remained almost the same. To celebrate its anniversary, Disney Parks Blog posted these pics (took in the exact same spot) to compare it.

First, here’s a vintage black and white photo. King Arthur Carrousel and the Mad Tea Party were moved from their original locations in 1983, while Mr. Toad’s Wild Ride and Sleeping Beauty Castle remain untouched.

Fantasyland, although different, remains as Walt described it on opening day- “a timeless land of enchantment”.

They are not going to be there! So sorry, this week there has been a three-day event called “Disney Dreamers Everywhere” in Disneyland Paris, were there are many characters and shows specially for the event, amongst them the Atlantis characters, so bad news. They are not gonna be there next week. But hey, still it is a very magical place, I’m sure you’ll be able to take pics with a lot of awesome characters! :)

TOP 10 THINGS TO DO THIS SUMMER IN WDW

The summer is not around the corner anymore, it has arrived! Celebrating that today is the Monstrous All-Nighter, here is a list of must-do’s this upcoming summer in WDW, according to Disney Parks Blog.

1. The very anticipated Monstrous Summer all-nighter! On May 24th, 24 hours of Magic Kingdom fun and partying with characters in their pajamas.

2. On the Backlot at Disney’s Hollywood Studios, you’ll find the Monsters University Student Union, complete with a view of the campus.

3. Ride the “Monsterail” as it zips around in scare-riffic style, transporting you throughout the resort with the familiar “Please stand clear of the doors. Por favor, manténganse alejado de las puertas”.

4. Visit the New Fantasyland and take a trip under the sea with your favourite mermaid in Under the Sea ~ Journey of the Little Mermaid.

5. If the heat has got the best of you, nothing like freshening up with Disney’s traditional frosty treat: the Dole Whip. This pineapple-flavored ice cream concoction is available since Walt’s time, when Disneyland park opened.

6. The excitement of the park can be quite tiring. You might want to check out Senses Spa at Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort to recharge your batteries. It could help convince your parents that a vacation to WDW can be relaxing as well.

7. How about a night out at Splitsville Luxury Lanes at Downtown Disney. It’s a good place to grab some sushi as well.

8. Hitting the water parks is a must! Disney’s Blizzard Beach Water Park offers a huge thrill with a plunge down Summit Plummet!

9. Try cooling off with speeds up to 65 mph in the Test Track Presented by Chevrolet newly re-imagined track at Epcot.

10. The best way to end the day is with a firework show! You can go either to Epcot or Magic Kingdom.

20 YEARS AGO…

A day like today, in 1993 ~~(gosh I’m getting old)~~, the Backlot Theater opened on New York Street at Disney’s Hollywood Studios. It debuted The Spirit of Pocahontas, a 28-minute show which was the first Broadway-style theatrical production at Walt Disney World Resort including wind, water and fire effects as part of the dramatic retelling of the story.

This 1,500-seat theater was also home to another major productions , Disney’s The Hunchback of Notre Dame – A Musical Adventure.

Today you could meet the characters from Atlantis in Discoveryland! My friend is so lucky he took a few pictures with Milo, Kida and Vinnie. I had never seen Atlantis face characters before, if you are in Disneyland Paris these couple of days, be sure to check them out!

MORE ON THE UPCOMING PIXAR FILM “DIA DE LOS MUERTOS”

We already established that this film, directed by Lee Unkrich (Toy Story 3), was amongst Pixar projects for the future, that would be coming to theatres in 2015.

The film delves into this mexican holiday, and it (probably, it has not been made official yet) tells the story of a family, after a loved one dies, and he/she will accompany his /her relatives in a trip filled with adventure that will take place during the “dia de los muertos”.

In addition, it appears the film got almost canceled because of its polemic title. Thankfully, the project is still a go, but they are going to change the title, which is one of the reasons the release date of the film was pushed to 2016.

Other issues were involving the mexican community, feeling that this holiday is a great tradition they didn’t want stained by this film, if it was not a loyal and true portrayal of their culture.

Personally, I would love to see this film. First of all, its Pixar, they create amazing world which are ery sensitive to reality and humanity. They do their homework when it comes to cultural background too, just look at Brave. Also, I am peruvian, and The Emperor’s New Groove is not at all true to peruvian culture right now, or back in the Inca Empire then (like AT ALL). It’s just a film, just like telling a story, to have fun, to make people laugh. It’s not a documentary, so why would people get upset about something like this? I just don’t get it.

What do you guys think?

MONSTROUS TREATS FOR A MONSTRUOS SUMMER

Memorial Day weekend fun to kick off a Monstrous Summer atDisneyland Resort and Walt Disney World Resort with the 24 hour all-nighter. The Disney chefs have created a few Disney treats for the occasion!

The cupcake craze gets a nod at Gaston’s Tavern in New Fantasyland in Magic Kingdom Park, with a chocolate cupcake topped with tasty “Monsters University” sweets. How about the “Eye Scream Sundae” at Plaza Ice Cream Parlor and Plaza Restaurant in two flavors – mint chocolate chip or strawberry.

Also, The Launching Pad in Tomorrowland will have two theme drinks, Randall’s Suds and Mike’s Punch.
