Saving Mr. Banks
This Disney film is currently in a pre-production stage and will be directed by The Blind Side director, John Lee Hancock. With screenplay wrote by Kelly Marcel, it narrates a behind-the-scenes and all it took for Walt Elias Disney to convince the australian author P.L Travers, creator of the character of Mary Poppins, to sell him the rights in order for him to make the oscar-winning film that premiered in 1964.
Tom Hanks (Toy Story) will be playing THE MAN Walt Disney, whereas Traver will be played by Emma Thompson (Brave), adding the figures of Colin Farrel and Paul Giamatti. A special participation of Julie Andrews is rumored to happen but is yet to be confirmed.
The screenplay is based in the close relationship between Travers and her characters, created from several experiences and emotions of the author herself, who suffered from a dificult childhood, including the premature death of her father. Walt finally was able to convince her to make the film, but she always disliked and resented the outcome, despite all its success with public and critics. She refused to sell he right for the rest of her novels after that.
The studios have not confirmed a release date yet.
